Nineteen Dietetic Interns from Arizona State University recently completed a public health nutrition rotation at the Arizona Department of Health Services. The two-week experience is part an internship which includes more than 1,200 hours of supervised practice required before taking the national exam to become a Registered Dietitian.
The interns learned about a variety of public health programs, toured the State Lab and St. Mary’s Food Bank, completed a “walkability” assessment of the capitol area, learned about Arizona agriculture, and completed challenging projects. Their projects included developing a proposed toolkit for healthy meetings and recommendations for a variety of evidence based enhancements for worksite wellness programs.
Special thanks to Terri Green from the Bureau of Nutrition and Physical Activity for arranging the more than 35 different speakers and activities, as well as serving as preceptor for the interns. This amazing experience for the dietetic interns is possible because of the generous sharing of time and expertise from many of our employees.
