businessman at the airportThe WHO declared the end of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone on Nov. 7 when 42 days (two incubation periods) passed since the last Ebola patient was released from a Sierra Leone Ebola Treatment Unit. This led to modifications of entry screening and monitoring for travelers coming to the United States from Sierra Leone.

Travelers from Sierra Leone no longer require active monitoring, but are being encouraged to watch their health for 21 days (self-observation) after leaving Sierra Leone. These travelers are also encouraged to contact their local health department if they have a fever or any other symptoms consistent with Ebola.

ADHS continues to receive contact information for returning travelers from both Sierra Leone and Guinea; however only travelers from Guinea are being actively monitored.
