I was fortunate to be able to attend the US-México Border Health Commission Annual Meeting in Ensenada this month. Mary Wakefield(Administrator for HRSA) and Víctor Hugo López Aranda (General Director of the National Commission of Social Health Protection) attended some of the meetings (and social events) and co-chaired the Plenary Session. Victor was representing the new Secretary of Health for Mexico (Chertorivski).
We talked about the Commission’s 2011 priorities, did activity updates, and discussed the 2011-2012 work plan including the progress of Healthy Border 2010 and the development of Healthy Border 2020. The Mexican Delegation presented several Mexican Initiatives that included Seguro Popular (Popular Health Insurance program), Camino a la Salud (Pathway to Health), and Iniciativa Cinco Pasos por tu Salud (Five Steps to Your Health). The Commission also approved the new 2008/2009 Annual Report and the draft 2010 Annual Report.
I believe the Commission’s 2011 priorities are right in line.
