October 10 is a big day here in Arizona and around the country. Kids and their parents will join together to celebrate the benefits of physical activity on International Walk to School Day.
From Flagstaff to Sahuarita, Walk to School events across Arizona will highlight safe and walkable routes to school and encourage families to use their feet for the commute. Nearly 5,000 schools throughout the United States and others in 40 countries around the world will be holding Walk to School events.
Walking to school gives students time for physical activity, an opportunity to be outdoors, and chances to connect with parents, neighbors, and other students. The entire community benefits when there is less traffic in neighborhoods. Walk to School Day events increase awareness about the need to create safer routes for walking to school and highlight the benefits of physical activity among students and parents alike.
