The Arizona State Loan Repayment Program provides loan repayment incentives to eligible health care providers who commit to serve in Arizona’s medically underserved communities. Up to $65,000 of loan repayment assistance is available for physicians and dentists in exchange for an initial two-year commitment to serve in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas in Arizona. For the same commitment, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, independently licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors and clinical psychologists are eligible for up to $50,000 in repayment assistance.
The program within the Bureau of Women’s and Children’s Health received increased funding in the current fiscal year for an additional $350,000 bringing the total program funds to $1 million annually. This funding increase is critical to bringing more providers into rural, underserved communities. With the increased funding, we are able to support 43 new providers this fiscal year to a total obligated provider in Arizona State Loan Repayment Program of 71.
