Michael Allison has set up a Tribal Consultation meeting regarding Medical Marijuana to get input and advice from our tribal partners on the new medical marijuana law. There are a whole host of questions to consider, everything from whether any tribes intend to adopt the new law and whether they would ever be interested in the ADHS licensing a dispensary on tribal land… to what would happen if a Qualified Patient that isn’t a tribal member is caught with marijuana on tribal land by tribal law enforcement (if the tribe doesn’t recognize the law).
Another interesting question to address is what the Department should do with applications from tribal members with tribal address that apply for Qualified Patient medical marijuana cards and whether tribes will recognize the cards.

I would hope that Native Americans in Arizona would be afforded the same guarantees and protections that the non-Indians receive outside of the reservation boundaries. As the “Bill of Rights” applies to us on tribal land, so should laws enacted within the states we reside.
When is this meeting? Are all Native American representatives invited?

This meeting was last week, and our Tribal Liaison Michael invited the leadership of each Tribe to attend.
How well was it attended ? Is there a way to find out what was discussed and what, if any, comments were made by the Tribal Leadership that attended? Was this covered by the local media? Communication is a two way street, I hope Tribal Leadership understand this and don’t just have a knee jerk reaction to medical marijuana. Native Americans get cancer too, and have chronic pain, among other things. Peyote only does so much.
