The Arizona SunWise Program is excited to kick off our 14th annual “Be SunWise and Play Sun Smart!” poster contest. The contest is open to Arizona residents age 17 or younger, and encourages youth to illustrate ways to keep safe in the Arizona sun. The winning artist and teacher will receive on-field awards and appear on the jumbotron at the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game on Saturday, May 13.
Our SunWise program has had great success in getting Arizona’s youth to participate in the poster contest and is continuously looking for ways to increase participation. It’s a fantastic way to teach children about sun safety, while also having fun. Schools are encouraged to invite students to participate in the Be SunWise and Play Sun Smart Skin Cancer Prevention Poster Contest. A list of complete rules is available here. Feel free to use the SunWise tip sheet for inspiration, or visit the SunWise homepage to learn more about the program and sun safety. Entries should be received by 5:00 PM on March 20, 2017.
The SunWise Program not only educates children on the importance of sun safety during the scorching summer months, but also keeps youth aware of the potential risks of overexposure to UV rays year round. Since overexposure is the leading cause of skin cancer, it’s a topic that remains critical due to Arizona’s yearly average of over 300 days of sunshine.
