At the Arizona-Mexico Commission meeting held in Scottsdale earlier this month, the Governors of Arizona and Sonora, Mexico signed a Declaration of Cooperation to address preventing injuries for children who are not restrained in car seats. The Declaration calls for the collection of donated new and used car seats for use in the region, in conjunction with an educational campaign.
The Secretary of Public Health for the State of Sonora will accept the donated car seats and distribute them to families that can’t afford to buy a car seat. Arizona’s next step will be to have a stakeholder meeting on July 12 to discuss the project, review the work plan, and enhance educational efforts along the border. Stay tuned for more information about this important project and how you can help.
