Our Behavioral Health team polished off this year’s 2010 Annual Substance Abuse Report to the Legislature and Governor on December 30, 2010.  A few highlights include:

We began statewide implementation of the American Society of Addiction Medicine Placement Patient Criteria. Once fully adopted, this process will be the uniform criteria for assessing a client’s addiction severity and determining the most appropriate level of care to effectively meet their clinical need.   Kids who the received services overwhelmingly reported marijuana as their primary drug, and its rate of use has been steadily increasing over the past five fiscal years, from 59% in 2006 to 75% in 2010. Alcohol was the second most identified primary substance indicated, and its prevalence has been declining in recent years for this population.
