About Dr. Richard Carmona
Dr. Richard Carmona, the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, is serving as the Public Health Medical Adviser for the Arizona Department of Health Services. In this role, Dr. Carmona provides guidance on public health policy and implementation of scientific and evidence-based approaches. He previously advised the Arizona Department of Health Services on the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and public health emergency preparedness. Dr. Richard Carmona has more than 50 years of experience as a health leader and practitioner. Dr. Carmona serves as Distinguished Laureate Professor at the University of Arizona, and has a Master's in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the University of Arizona and an M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco.
