About Joel Terriquez
Dr. Joel Terriquez is the cross-cutting Medical Director of the Bureau of Infectious Diseases Services (BIDS) and the Bureau of Immunization Services with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). He is an Internal medicine and Infectious disease specialist. Dr. Terriquez graduated from medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Mexico in 2005. His postgraduate medical education was at the University of Arizona in Tucson where he completed his training in internal medicine in 2010 and infectious disease in 2012. Dr. Terriquez had the unique opportunity to obtain additional medical training at MD Anderson in Houston (Infections of the immunocompromised host) and National Jewish Healthcare in Denver (Mycobacterial and respiratory infections). He also holds a certification in infection control and hospital epidemiology (CIC). Joel served as medical director for transmissible diseases and tuberculosis control officer for Coconino County from 2015 to 2023. He has collaborated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as subject matter expert and guest editor for the development of guidelines for management of bioterrorism agents including plague and tularemia. Dr. Terriquez graduated from the Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership program at Harvard Medical School in May 2023.
