The State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) is launching its electronic application system that will improve efficiency in the program. Through the program’s continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts, we recognized that the SLRP paper application is unclear, outdated, and inefficient. For instance, the paper application often results to an incomplete or deficient application and increased phone calls to the program.

In the last application cycle ending June 1, 2017, a total of 165 deficient documents were found in 76 applications received by the program, which is an average deficiency of two required documents per application. Out of 76 applicants, 52 (68%) called to clarify about certain requirements indicating that the website and application materials were unclear and confusing. While the program has made a number of interventions to improve the information on the website and application materials, the ultimate goal for the CQI project is to transform the paper application forms to an electronic system to ultimately improve efficiency and customer experience.

After seven months of development since July of 2017, the electronic system is finally ready to launch. The SLRP electronic system will launch in two phases. The first phase is the online Site Registration cycle beginning March 1 through April 15, 2018. During this cycle, sites can register online and upload all site-specific documents for the provider application. The second phase is the online Provider Application cycle beginning April 18 through June 1, 2018. During this cycle, providers can submit their online application and supporting documents through the electronic portal.

At this time, the Provider Application portal is built for Initial Applications only. Initial Applications are applications for a two-year service commitment from applicants who have not participated in SLRP before. Prior to the launch dates, program staff will be hosting two separate series of webinars for sites and providers respectively.
