Last week, we hosted our eighth annual Arizona Infectious Disease Training & Exercise (AZID2017), where about 400 partners from a wide variety of organizations joined together to learn and share about best practices and current infectious disease trends in Arizona and surrounding states. We hosted speakers from local Arizona jurisdictions, other states, CDC, and Universities.
We had presentations on a variety of topics including One Health, Foodborne Illnesses, Outbreaks, Vaccine Preventable Diseases, Healthcare Associated Infections, Vectorborne and Zoonotic Diseases, Tuberculosis, HIV, Informatics, and Zika Response. Our Agenda details each of the interesting topics discussed during the event and slides will be posted in the coming weeks if you missed out or want to revisit any of the talks.
Key threads throughout the event were the interaction of humans, animals and the environment (One Health) and the importance of multi-disciplinary partnerships to address public health problems.
We also used this event as an opportunity to launch our brand new mobile app for school nurses and child care staff entitled Healthy KIDS AZ so we can improve disease reporting and better connect public health with the rest of our partners. Events like this are critical to growing the state’s capacity to prepare for and respond to infectious disease threats and helping make Arizona a healthier and safer place.
